Severe storms have left 2601 premises without power overnight in the Tamworth region, after damaging winds and lightning strikes took it’s toll across most of northern NSW.

The largest affected areas are in Moonbi Kootingal, with 963 premises still without power on Wednesday morning, while Dungowan, Woolomin, Nundle, Hanging Rock and Bowling Alley Point are also all without power.

Another lightning strike over Hillvue captured by resident Jo Anne Hester that would have caused an ear splitting boom of thunder.
