IT IS the school where talented country music artists are made into stars and it all kicks off again this weekend.
The Country Music Association of Australia is gearing up to host another group of aspiring singers, songwriters and musicians at the 2018 Senior Academy of Country Music.
It will begin on Sunday and will see 29 students from all over Australia and even India head to the Calrossy Anglican School, Brisbane St campus for two weeks of intensive musical tutoring.
This year’s students are aged between 16 and 54 years old.
In a first for the academy Sharon Russel, a student from India will make their way over to the country music capital to join in on all the action.
There are 24 students in the singer-songwriter course and five in the instrumental course.
For this year’s event, there’s three Tamworth students in the mix with Elizabeth Steadman, Jarred Taylor and Luke Dallas set to experience the academy for the first time.
Director Lyn Bowtell said the guidance provided by those in the industry was invaluable.
“The students will undertake the world-class intensive music and business course in January under the guidance of some of the best artists in the country for two weeks in Tamworth,” she said.
“They can expect to work hard, but grow as artists and people over those two weeks and the changes we see in them is incredible.
“The course gives them the chance to learn all they can about the music industry and form lifelong bonds with other aspiring singers and songwriters and award-winning artists.”
Not only will the students learn the ropes of the industry but they’ll be tutored by big names in the game including Ashleigh Dallas, Kevin Bennett, Lachlan Bryan, Simon Johnson, and assistant Liam Kennedy-Clark.
The’ll be joined by special guests to speak about the business side of music, songwriting, media, and other vital aspects of the modern music industry.
The course began in 1997 and has seen the likes of Lyn Bowtell, Brooke McClymont, Adam Eckersley, Travis Collins, Ashleigh Dallas, and Judah Kelly graduate.
It will end with a graduation concert at the West Tamworth League Club at 4pm on Friday, January 19.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children and available at the venue.
