FESTIVAL regular Mickey Pye is hoping he’ll pluck some gold on this year’s trek to Tamworth after snagging a nomination in this year’s country music awards.

Pye’s song Porch Pickin’ is one of five finalists in the Instrumental of the Year category for the awards, which will be presented in late January, 2018.

This is the third year in a row he has had a nomination in that category.

“I'm excited to be a finalist in the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards for Instrumental of the Year,” Pye wrote on his Facebook page.

“Guitar instrumentals were a huge influence on my journey into music as a kid.

“If this track inspires some kid somewhere to pick up a guitar and have a go, then I'm happy with just that.”

The Golden Guitar Awards are held each January as part of the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
