Some seven years after taking up cricket, the recent Narrabri High School graduate has arrived at a key juncture in his life.
The 18-year-old will captain a Central North team for the first time when he leads the under-18 side into the NSW country championships in Tamworth next week.
I’ve been with Central North for a while now. It’s just a good opportunity to step up as captain.
- Coby Cornish
On Friday night, he made his club captaincy debut when he led Bective East into the Twenty20 final against Old Boys a No.1 Oval, following regular skipper Adam Jones’ withdrawal from the side.
“I’m excited more than anything,” he said. “I’ve been with Central North for a while now. It’s just a good opportunity to step up as captain. I’m really looking forward to it.”
As he was about the chance to skipper Bective East.
Jones, who missed the match due to a personal commitment, was confident the young wicketkeeper would perform admirably.
Cornish said: “I’m also pretty excited for that [captaining Bective]. I’m still fairly new to the team.
“It’s good that they have the confidence in me to give me the captaincy while he’s [Jones] away.”
