Eight years ago the rehab nurse’s foster mother died of breast cancer, and ever since the ultra-athlete has been doing whatever he can to raise awareness, with this effort his tenth Guinness World Record.
“I knew it was going to be tough and there were ties where I felt like throwing in the towel, but then I would think about all those cancer sufferers and survivors,” Mr Wright said.
On Wednesday night, 36 hours in, he “hit the wall” and “fell apart.”
“I was hurting, but it was mental more than physical, so I just watched some Youtube clips about cancer survivors, sorted myself out and battle it out,” he said.
“This one sits on top of my achievements.”
His next challenge will be just as exhilarating, but a lot shorter, after being chosen to carry the Queens Baton down Peel St on its way to the Commonwealth Games.
