Of those students a record 16,626 students received the ‘Distinguished Achievers Award’, recognising students who score in the highest band in at least one course, and the Tamworth region didn’t miss out.
Across the seven state, private, and catholic schools 81 pupils were recognised with the honour, with almost half being recognised in more than one subject.
Once again Calrossy returned the top results, with 31 individual Distinguished Achievers, while McCarthy recorded 20, and Oxley High 13, and Farrer seven.
Calrossy’s Eliza Falkenmire was one of a record 1394 students who were recognised with an All Around Achiever Award, for scoring in the top possible band across all ten units.
Oxley High, Peel High and McCarthy Catholic College could all confirm improvements on last year’s results, with all three principals praising the relationships and culture between students and staff for the success.
McCarthy principal Geoffrey Marsh said that the school recorded 25 band six results, up by eight on last year.
“We are expecting some really good outcomes when the ATAR scores come out on Friday, looking for a few really high ones as well,” Mr Marsh said.
Oxley High business director Robert McPherson said the school was “extremely happy with this year’s results,” with 29 band sixes.
Department of Education Executive Director Frank Potter echoed those sentiments, after it was revealed that over 20 public schools in the New England North West had students scoring in the top band in at least one subject.
“Our schools are sharing heartening stories of individual students who have sealed their personal goals with results that will take them confidently to the next step,” Mr Potter said.
