A new tradition was sparked when the community gathered in the revamped Fitzroy Street for the lighting of the Christmas tree.
The community turned out in droves to join in the festivities.
Many chose to dress for the occasion, and were kitted out in their Christmas attire.
There was a Christmas themed bagpipe band entertaining the crowd and plenty of things for the kids to do.
Of course one of the highlights of the evening was a visit from Santa Claus himself – the local children getting in their last minute Christmas wishes.
