Saturday’s eight-race TAB meeting started out strongly when the GJC received 190 nominations earlier in the week and continued into race day with more than 100 runners but a numbers of punters shone with their fashion choices.
More than 3000 people flocked to Riverside Racecourse on Saturday with the gentle breeze keeping the temperature warm while all the marquees and growing plain trees made the surrounds a pleasant day.
“We had a record day in just about everything,” GJC club secretary Mark Storey said.
“We ran out of tickets at 3000 so had more than 3000 people out here. That was a record, 45 per cent up from last year and last year was 40 per cent up on the previous year. So we’ve virtually doubled in two years.
“Peter Bloomfield (a Scone trainer) used to ride on it in the old days and he thought it the best he’s ever seen it, as good if not better than Scone.”
