The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the incident near Manilla about 1pm Saturday.
The 47-year-old man involved in the accident was flown to Tamworth hospital with suspected spinal injuries, a Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.
Manilla Sky Sailors Club president Godfrey Wenness confirmed on Sunday morning the man involved, an Australian recreational pilot now living in Norway, sustained lower spine injuries.
“It’s one of those accident like any other sport,” he said.
“The pilot flew close to the hill, got caught in strong winds.”
Mr Wenness said it was an otherwise ideal day for flying, with many other pilots gliding from Mt Borah to as far as Armidale.
