Motorists are being advised to avoid parts of the Tamworth CBD overnight on Monday, December 11, to allow for continued construction work on the $2.5 million Darling Street Sewer Rising Main Renewal Project.
Temporary road closures will be put in place from 6pm on Monday, December 11, up until 10am on Tuesday, December 12.
The affected roads are:
- Darling Street - closed between Kable Avenue and Marius Street. Traffic travelling north (towards Manilla) on Marius Street will be detoured using Macquarie Street to Peel Street.
- Kable Avenue – closed between Bourke and Darling streets.
- Peel Street – closed between Bourke and Macquarie streets.
The work will mark a key milestone for the project, as the shutdown and draining of the existing main is carried out and the new main is cut in and brought into service.
Council is asking any local residents who may usually travel through the CBD to get to work on Tuesday morning to use an alternate route to help minimise traffic hold ups in the area during the busy morning peak time.
Meanwhile, Tamworth CBD shoppers and workers are being asked not to park in Peel Street between Brisbane and Fitzroy streets on Monday and Tuesday nights (December 11 and 12) when road works are planned to be carried out.
The asphalt pavement will be resurfaced from 7pm each night, with work continuing until 6am the next day.
The work will be carried out on the Target side of the street on Monday night, and the Centrepoint Tamworth side of the street on Tuesday night.
