The Barton Lane Practice GP laid down a Movember Challenge to colleagues and patients alike, that if they could raise $5000 he would dye his impressive moustache whatever colour they chose.

“I was very sure they couldn’t raise the money – a week ago they were only up to $1500,” Dr Fitzgerald said.

In stepped his fellow practice doctors and associates, chipping in a combined $3500 to get them over the line, while the patients overwhelmingly voted for pink whiskers.

Not only did he get pink, but bright glow-in-the-dark disco pink.

“It’s awful,” he said.

“I am not sure whether I will get more patients wanting a look, or maybe I have a few quiet days ahead.”
