Capitol Theatre welcomed new partner Single Builders as the overarching season partner for the year and welcomed back Jump Up Trampoline Zone as the education and families partner.
Thirty-four events, made up from local and national touring productions, are on offer.
A full house of subscribers, members, partners and friends of the Capitol were at Wednesday night’s launch to hear all about Season 2018.
The season will include highlights such as Bosom Buddies starring Todd McKenney and Nancye Hayes, Sydney Writers’ Festival Live & Local, Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow, The Diamonds, Circus Oz – Model Citizens, The 78-Storey Treehouse, Stolen and Romeo & Juliet at the Capitol Theatre, Big Bad Wolf at TRECC and The Events starring well-known Australian actor Catherine McClements (Water Rats, Rush, Sisters) at the Tamworth Town Hall.
Manager of entertainment venues Peter Ross said: “Season 2018 supports the wonderful work of Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music, Tamworth Dramatic Society, Tamworth RSL Brass Band, Tamworth City Dance Academy, Tamworth Musical Society, Ballet Stars and 2340 Big Band, as well as bringing a range of respected companies such as Monkey Baa Theatre Company, CDP Kids, Opera Australia, Belvoir, Stalker Theatre and Circus Oz to the Tamworth region.”
Following on from last season’s very popular Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium, a particular highlight for children and their adults in 2018 will be Creature: An Adaptation of Dot & The Kangaroo at TRECC. This beautiful piece combines physical theatre, interactive digital technology, storytelling and song. Creature is a modern retelling of the 1899 Australian classic.
Ross said: “There are many physical things that go into building a community – bricks, steel, roads, houses, infrastructure… and there are the many non-physical things that make up the spirit of a community – trust, passion, honesty, generosity, collaboration, pride and respect. The arts play a major part in contributing to the community in a physical way that in turn feeds and strengthens the spirit and social pride within a community.”
Peter Ross announced, at the sold-out launch event, the continuation of “Capitol Theatre Presents”, the initiative that takes hand-picked, small scale shows into the region’s smaller towns and villages to offer access to quality live entertainment.
Travelling the region as part of Season 2018 will be the London Klezmer Quartet at Bendemeer Hall and Capitol Theatre in February, The Story Only I Can Tell – William Yang at Nundle Memorial Hall in March and Dustier Than Ever – A Show In Honour of Slim Dusty at Manilla Town Hall in April.
