The 56-year-old man cannot be identified for legal reasons, but he was arrested at a Tamworth house on Thursday afternoon by Oxley detectives.
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was questioned by investigators and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a person under the age of 16.
He is also facing one count of aggravated indecent assault of a person under 16.
Police will allege in court the offences occurred between 2011 and 2013, but much of the detail surrounding the case cannot be reported for legal reasons.
Oxley detectives launched an investigation after a complaint to police and inquiries are continuing, police said.
The man appeared in an out-of-sessions hearing in Tamworth Local Court and was formally refused bail on Friday morning.
He was ordered to remain in custody and will reappear in the same court next week.
