About 4pm on Tuesday, an 8-year-old boy was walking on Falcon Drive, just off Calala Lane, when a man in a silver car asked him to get in the vehicle.
The boy ran home and notified his parents, who reported the incident to police.
The man has been described as about 20-years-old, olive skin, skinny, with brown hair.
The vehicle has been described as silver in colour, and is possibly an older model Mitsubishi Lancer with Victorian number plates.
The incident happened in close proximity to Carinya Christian School on Calala’s Boronia Dr.
While the child involved was not believed to be a student at the school, principal David Jones said a text message was sent to parents alerting them to what happened and additional arrangements would be made for when children leaving school.
“We only received very limited information in regards to what happened and we are telling all of our kids this information in regards to the nature of the incident – that it involved a silver sedan and Victorian number plates,” he told The Leader.
“We have instructed kids in terms of potential risks and strategies to help keep them safe if they were approached by a person.
“It is all about keeping our kids safe and making sure our community is aware of potential risks.
“We did send out a text message to all parents stating the nature of the incident – it gives them the opportunity, if they prefer, to pick up their kids rather than walk home.
“We’ll also have additional staff, obviously, when kids are out at the end of school.
“It's something you'd never want to happen to any child and so you do everything you can.”
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact police.
