More than 900 people braved the rain for the Scully Park event, which was organised by Wests. Assistant organiser Carolyn Stier said there were more than 300 tickets sold at the gate
“We were a bit taken back by the number of people who still came,” she said.
“It just goes to show that craft beer lovers out there. They’re dedicated and they still came.”
There were more than 50 beers to sample from 21 brewers. “Unfortunately in the morning, we thought the rain would pass over so didn’t move to car park,” Ms Stier said.
But the organisers adapted quickly – the band was moved undercover at the top of the stadium as the beer lovers migrated to the sheltered seats.
“Considering the weather, it was still a fabulous time, it still had a really good vibe and great atmosphere,” Ms Stier said.
“We’ve got some contingency plans for next year, should that happen again we’ll have it all work out.
“Last year it was 38 degrees and boiling hot, so you just can’t pick it.”
