Jodi Small contacted the Namoi Valley Independent on Friday and said the National Parks and Wildlife Service has given Waterways a “verbal okay” to continue holding its animals.
The park is now waiting on the official paperwork to certify that it once again holds a Native Animal Keeper Licence.
“We are okay to keep the animals as is at the moment - this is a verbal okay. The paperwork still has to come,” Ms Small said.
“They were very happy with the park. They're happy for us to continue holding them but not display them yet.”
“It’s really good news. I'm really happy with that.”
Four inspectors from the Parks and Wildlife Service visited the park on October 12 after Waterways applied for the licence. They spent more than three hours taking in the 10 acres of park land, assessing the condition of animals and their living quarters.
Ms Small and her father, Colin felt positive after the inspection and are even more hopeful after Jodi’s phone call with the service on Thursday.
Once the paperwork has been received from the Parks and Wildlife Service, Waterways can apply to NSW DPI for a public exhibition licence. The park was closed by the DPI in April.
