There is no downplaying the significance of this match where the world's second and third-best teams will battle it out for bragging rights until they likely play again this time next year.

The Wallabies were dealt a proper lesson in June last year when they were whitewashed 3-0 and could not improve their fortunes in December when England ran away 37-21 winners at Twickenham.

While Australia insist those four games in 2016 mean nothing, Jones begs to differ, suggesting England can use that to their advantage if things get tight late in the contest on Saturday.

"They'll have a bit of an itch in the back of their head," Jones said. "When the game gets tighter, their memory will go back to those precious games. So that's an advantage for us; that itch in the back of their head.

"We'll get stuck into Australia. There's no choice. They've got back into international rugby and got on the front foot. They've got a big forward pack, big backs. Their backs are as big as their forwards and we've got to get stuck into them early."

Physicality is a word thrown around rugby circles all the time in the build up to Tests, however, the extra spice and history between the two sides suggests both outfits will be looking to belt each other from the outset.

"We want to physically dominate them," Jones said. "They're probably the most physical side in the world and we want to show we can dominate them up front.

"Our job is to play good English rugby and to beat Australia.

"There's nothing better than an Australia v England sporting contest. We've had it in cricket, the rugby league was on the other week and I watched that with interest. I'm looking forward to Saturday, it should be a ripper of a game.

"We've got to rise to the occasion. We're playing against the best team in the world team at the moment."

An Eddie Jones press conference wouldn't be complete without the former Wallabies coach being quizzed about his old Randwick teammate Michael Cheika.

There is a lot of history between the pair and their verbal exchanges before and after matches last year was a riveting sideshow to action on the field.

While there has been the odd cheeky line from Jones this week, he has been rather complimentary of Cheika and the Australians - perhaps a sign he knows he is under pressure.

"He's done a great job, has rebuilt the side twice - first before the World Cup and now after the World Cup," Jones said. "They've got them playing that physical, juggernaut type of game. They're a hard side to beat."

Jones has recalled No.12 Owen Farrell and named Jonny May on the right wing after the Leicester speedster passed a fitness test.

England have been criticised in the aftermath of their 21-8 win over Argentina, which was one of their more dour displays since Jones took charge.

It is safe to say Jones does not care one iota how his team plays so long as they continue their three-game winning streak dating back to the last match of the Six Nations campaign in March.

"It seems like since we had an 'ordinary' game against Argentina, the whole place has exploded and I don't think it's like that," Jones said. "I know you guys in the media like to make it like that but it's not like that. We had a good win last week and we are looking forward to playing better this week.

"There might be 80,000 [people] out there and there might be 40,000 who find it entertaining and 40,000 that don't find it entertaining. Our job is to win and play good rugby."
