More than 130 kids in the New England region with a disability were given the opportunity to try new sports at the Variety Activate Inclusion Sports Day on Thursday.

The day was open to all kids aged five to 18 who are living with a disability.
The inclusive day aimed to help the children overcome barriers, to take part in sports and show them the range of sports available to them in the New England area.
Specialist coaches, adaptive equipment and representatives from local sporting clubs were on hand to give the kids a go at netball, goalball, cricket, basketball and taekwondo in a fun and inclusive environment.
“At Variety we believe all Aussie kids deserve a fair go and no matter where they live, or their ability, they can take part in a sport they love,” Variety - the Children’s Charity NSW CEO David Sexton said.
“We hope the Tamworth Activate Inclusion Sports Day has provided a chance for local kids to overcome the barriers to taking part in the activities available.”
Sport NSW Chief Executive Officer Darren Simpson was thrilled to be able partner up with Variety for the important day.
“We are excited to deliver the Activate Inclusion Sports Day and hope the kids feel encouraged and empowered to explore the sporting opportunities available to them,” Simpson said.
The Tamworth Activate Inclusion Sports Day is just the tip of the iceberg for Variety and NSW Sport.
Variety and NSW Sport will stage a series of events throughout NSW to help kids living with a disability overcome the barriers to enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
