Highway patrol officers issued 30 speeding tickets between 6am and 3pm on Thursday, as part of a one day police operation, code-named Operation Safe Speed.
The national policing operation saw nine other infringements issued for other offences including four drivers caught talking on the phone behind the wheel, after preliminary numbers were released on Thursday afternoon.
“The results are disappointing, and by midday, almost 30 speeding tickets had already been issued across the Tamworth area,” Sergeant Michael Buko said.
“Speeding is dangerous, and these drivers are putting other motorists and their own lives at risk.

“We know that speed kills, it’s a major contributor to serious and fatal motor collisions.”
The operation saw highway officers saturate the Tamworth township and highways out of the city.
“There is no excuses for exceeding the speed limit,” Sergeant Buko said.
“An operation like this just shows the highway patrol are detecting speeding at anywhere and at anytime, and drivers will be caught.”
