The Leader can reveal details for the international act could be revealed in the coming weeks, with excitement building around the big-ticket show for early next year.
Organisers have remained tight-lipped on who the visiting act would be, but say it would add to the impressive catalogue of stars that have performed in our venues to date.
Entertainment venues manager Peter Ross said more than 70,000 tickets had been sold across the city’s council-owned entertainment venues so far this year.
The latest figures come off the back of successful performances including Paul Kelly, with 1400 tickets sold, and a solid fortnight of ticket sales for the Tamworth Musical Society’s production of Annie.
“It’s a great sign of the growth for the region,” Mr Ross said.
“Venues like TRECC, the town hall and the Capitol Theatre all work in with the city economically and as a choice destination to move to and to live.
“Having those cultural infrastructures adds to the fabric of the city.”
Mr Ross said council was “constantly” working with promoters around the country to secure acts when they were available, including international act The Unbelievables, who will construct their show and perform it at TRECC for the first time on December 15.
Closer to home, the Tamworth Musical Society has performed three shows at the city’s venues this year.
President Ann Walsh said Annie was among the most attended productions for the the society to date, and it was great to see locals embracing the city’s entertainment culture and venues.
“It was a fantastic experience for everyone, it involved tiny tots up to mature people," she said.
“There’s something about theatre that just hooks you and you can’t stop, it’s like a family.
“It’s also giving back to the community. We live here and it’s lovely to get out there, put on a show and entertain people.”
The 2018 entertainment season will be officially launched at the Capitol Theatre on Wednesday, November 29, where a catalogue of more than 30 shows for next year’s venues will be announced – this is not including touring acts.
Tickets for the launch are free and can be secured by contacting the venue.
