A grade rolled out first as Pete Horwood and Brent Rees tested the legs of the local contingent as a solid pace was set from the get go.
With around 10 minutes to go Rees attacked into the wind to split the race in two. In the end, Rees was too strong for Horwood, with Mick Sherwood holding up the side for Tamworth in a close third.
In B grade, it took only one corner for Rob Wright to test the waters and attack the front with about 25 minutes to go.
It proved to be a game changer, with Hugh Humphries making contact after a few laps. The pair then worked together to lap the field with Wright taking a decisive win from Humphries.
The racers took a break as the come and try session got underway before C grade took to the start line.
The pace was on from the start with the Nash brothers and Barry Stockman ready to work while Kylie Wright, Min McDonald and Sim Church swapped turns with the boys.
The pace was too hot for some and the lead bunch dwindled to five.
On the second last lap, Chum Nash attacked but was not strong enough to drop McDonald who came from the back to reel him in.
McDonald then found the legs to attack from the front on the final lap to beat Stockman by half a bike with Church sneaking through for third.
As Tamworth Cycle Club’s numbers continue to grow, the club will add a D grade race to their proceedings which will start next Sunday morning.
