To mark the centenary of Tia Union Church the committee of the incorporated association who manage both the non-denominational church and the associated cemetery, joined with other descendants of the area to arrange for the building to be declared an official War Memorial. A project which had been ten years in the making.

Yesterday was both the official declaration of this and the first day of the descendants of Tia reunion.The church already contained two honour rolls and three memorial plaques, and during the official ceremony, a roll of service since WW2 of those from the Tia district was also unveiled by the president of the Walcha RSL Mr Roy Westfold.
Returned serviceman Major William Norton OAM, RAA was one of the highest-ranking soldiers to come from the Tia area, and he responded by saying the service roll was significant to both those who serve and their families.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson unveiled the War Memorial plaque at the door of the church and declared the entire structure a War Memorial. He also congratulated the committee involved in the preservation and ongoing management of the church and presented them with a vintage bottle of port.
