Attunga Public will soon be making improvements to a dedicated sensory room after a donation with a difference rolled into the school for lunch on Wednesday.

The fourth annual Variety Postie Dash saw the largest group of bikers yet, with 39 ‘posties’ delivering a cheque for $3000 during the 1400km round trip, which started in Newcastle on Sunday, returning on Friday.

The gang mostly stick to the back roads, and have had plenty of fun already this year after stopping in at North Haven, Inverell and Armidale to name a few.

Last year the event raised $138,000 for kids in need, and Variety Events Manager Stuart Telfer is expecting even more this time around.

Another aspect of the ride is Postman Pat’s letter drop, with the quintessential postman picking up ‘get well soon’ letters written by children at Attunga, and other schools, and delivering them to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“It’s a great little event that is helping a lot of kids each year,” Mr Telfer said.
