Coming off a 58-ball 54 in a four-run win over City United in a one-dayer at No.1 Oval on Saturday, Middlebrook blasted 81 when the sides met in a Twenty20 clash the following day.
Middlebrook was in a ruthless mood, smashing six sixes and five fours as Old Boys chased down City United’s 5-146 in the 17th over for the loss of nine wickets.
Mitchell Swain was next best for Old Boys, with his rapid-fire 25 including two sixes and two fours.
Tom Fitzgerald had the best City figures (3-37 off four overs). Best with the bat for City was Sam Taylor with 39, while Chris Coulton bagged 2-28 off four overs for Old Boys.
The clash was one of six Twenty20 games played in Tamworth on Sunday, in what was the first of two “gala” days under the new club-based Twenty20 format.
In the earlier match at No.1 Oval, Bective East reached 7-126 off 20 overs and then bowled South Tamworth out for 64 in the 17th over for a 62-run win. Rod Fensbo finished with 3-13 from four overs for Bective.
James Haling top-scored for Bective East with 38, while Troy Osborne and Oliver McGill both grabbed two wickets for Souths.
Osborne top-scored for Souths. His 33 included four fours and a six.
