Set 206 for victory, City United reached 8-202 off 40 overs.
Fitzgerald struck 16 fours and a six before Chris Coulton bowled him for 122.
But Fitzgerald lacked support, with Lachlan Cooke (29) and Liam Rodgers the only other City United batsmen to reach double figures.
Coulton’s 3-38 off eight overs was the best for Old Boys, followed by Amit Kumar’s 2-19 off three.
Old Boys captain Ben Middlebrook top-scored with 54 off 58 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, as the reigning premiers reached 205 before being bowled out in the 39th over.
Old Boys No.3 Adam Lole was next best with 42 off 75 balls, while Mitchell Swain smashed six boundaries in a 32-ball 30.
Anoop Gopalakrishnan’s 4-28 off 5.2 overs was the best for City United, followed by Joey Mead (2-40 from seven) and Tait Jordan (2-43 from seven).
