Operation Drink Drive was launched at 12.01am on Friday with hundreds of random breath tests carried out on the first day of the three-day blitz, which wraps up at midnight on Sunday.
At 8am, a 45-year-old woman was arrested after providing a positive roadside test on Scott Rd, Tamworth.
Police will allege the woman later blew .102 – more than double the legal limit. She was charged with mid-range PCA and had her licence suspended.
Police also arrested another driver in Inverell on Friday afternoon after they failed a roadside test, while a 22-year-old male was charged with mid-range PCA in Tamworth just an hour before the operation was launched.
Police allege he was on the incorrect side of Manilla Rd and nearly ran a woman off the road, near the intersection of Appleby Ln.
A truck driver, who was following and witnessed the incident told police he stopped and took the man’s keys from the vehicle when he parked in the middle of the road.
Police were called and the man was arrested. Checks revealed he had a warrant out for his arrest.
He was charged and refused bail to front court.
