On Monday, the Bulldogs announced Campbell’s passing on their Facebook page.
He had also played for Boggabri.
“We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family & friends of Boyde Campbell,” the Bulldogs said in the Facebook post.
“We send our love & strength to you all during this very sad time. Boyde will be remembered as an exceptional footballer, a wonderful young man, but most of all an incredible father to his 2 beautiful boys.
“So many lives have been touched by Boyde & he will be deeply missed by so many people.
“We remind everyone affected by this tragedy to support one another and talk about how you’re feeling. It’s ok to not be ok!
“R.I.P you champion. From everyone at the Bulldogs, we love you so very much.”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Bulldogs announced that in conjunction with the Boggabri Rugby League Football Club, former Dragons player Dan Hunt would speak about mental health at Gunnedah Services & Bowling Club the following night.
Hunt is an NRL mental health ambassador.
The Bulldogs said Hunt “would really like to help the community deal with the tragic loss of Boyde Campbell. We feel that so many of you will benefit from hearing Dan’s story”.
The club added: “The night will be very informal – a chance for mates to get together, have a beer, support one another and listen to a powerful story. Let’s band together and help one another heal.”
Anyone needing support can call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
