The loss of four first graders at the end of last season – captain Tim Kensell, Brendan Reynolds, Sage Cook and Tom Scoble – means West Tamworth is a bit of an unknown quantity.
They won their opening one-dayer of the season against North Tamworth, but on Friday night their side will include two second-graders and a third-grader.
But the third grader is Eddie McGuirk, Kookaburras’ former first-grade captain in the Gunnedah competition.
McGuirk will make his top-grade debut for West Tamworth alongside his teenage son, wicketkeeper Adam.
McGuirk has been playing third grade with his teenage daughter, Claire, after the Gunnedah family joined the club this season.
Grattan said allrounder Eddie was “probably” too good for third grade.
“It’s a standalone comp, so we’ll put a fewer lower grade players in as well and give them a go under lights at No.1 Oval,” Grattan said.
