Tuesday, October 17: A MAN was fighting for life in hospital on Tuesday night after a car and truck collided on the outskirts of Tamworth.
A spokesperson for Ambulance NSW said a man, believed to be aged in his 20s, was taken to Tamworth hospital in a critical condition with head injuries.
The crash occurred on the Oxley Highway at the intersection of Goddard Ln, about 3.15pm.
The man was trapped in the vehicle for a short period of time before he was cut out by rescue crews.
Police closed the highway in both directions for several hours as they examined the scene and cleared the wreckages.
Sergeant Michael Buko told The Leader preliminary investigations revealed the man was travelling from Tamworth and was attempting to turn right in Goddard Ln.
“Witnesses have told police the Holden Barina collided with an oncoming truck,” he said.
“The driver of the truck was injured but was taken to Tamworth hospital by police for mandatory testing.”
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
“It’s sad that we have to attend these crashes on a regular basis and we would urge drivers to take care on the roads,” Sergeant Buko said.
“Drivers have a responsibility to obey the road rules, take car when driving and be cautious.”
