The graduates piled into their school halls for their English exam, the first in four weeks of tests across a multitude of subjects. At Calrossy Anglican School there were sighs of relief for many of the students as they left the exam rooms and waiting for them outside was a Freddo Frog – a long standing tradition at the school.
Among them was Samantha Brice and Angus Wolfgang who began their schooling with Calrossy in Preschool.
“I’m feeling pretty relieved,” Samantha said after the exam.
“But I feel it’s nice to have so many years leading up to this point. Now to have it done it’s pretty exhilarating.
“I can’t think of a lot of places where you can have 15 of your 18 years at a school and I’m pretty proud. It’s been amazing, all the teachers have been very helpful and it’s a really nice community.”
Angus said left the exam room feeling confident.
“I’m feeling really happy with how it went,” he said.
“I tried to study hard over the past few weeks. It’s been a very memorable experience, we’ve seen a lot change over the past 15 years we’ve been here.”
School head of English, Chris Chong was pleased with the paper.
“I think the paper was very, very doable. I think that the mark count was different to what students had expected but across the whole paper there was only one thing we could question,” he said.
Principal David Smith said the job for teachers was now about “easing tension” for the students.
