TAMWORTH’S own Aleyce Simmonds has sealed her place as one of the top women in country.

The songstress was one of the stand out achievers at the Southern Stars Australian Independent Country Music Awards in Mildura where she not only co-hosted the event but came home with Female Vocalist Award for her single Defeated and the overall Independent Artist of the Year Award.

“I can't really put into words how honoured I am to have received these awards and particularly the Australian Independent Artist of the year for the second time,” she said.

“I've put everything I have into my career over the past 12 or so years and have felt like giving up so many times that I've lost count. Acknowledgements like this make us feel like we're exactly where we're supposed to be; that's how I feel right now.”
