The three day event was the first of its kind in Northern NSW and drew 16 club and regional teams.
The Tamworth side didn’t manage to pick up a win but enjoyed themselves and acquitted themselves well.
“We drew with Garden Suburbs 0-all in our first game,” May said.
“It was a very good game. I thought we dominated possession but we couldn’t finish.”
They then “got a touch-up” from Newcastle premier league side Adamstown Rosebud, going down 8-nil.
“It was a good experience for the girls,” May said.
“You’re playing against girls that train three days a week and play together for nine months of the year.”
One of the big differences was when Adamstown had a chance they finished it.
“They were very good in front of goal,” May said.
“We created four good chances and missed a penalty.”
Their final game was against Mayfield United on Sunday morning.
Gunnedah’s Piper Rankmore struck “pretty early” to put Tamworth ahead 1-nil, but Mayfield hit back pretty quickly May said, and popped in another three goals to lead 4-1 at half-time. They ended up winning 5-1.
“The scoreline probably didn’t reflect that game. We hit the post a couple of times,” May said.
He also questioned the late penalty that yielded Mayfield their only goal of the second half.
He believes the concept has merit and said hopefully the girls will put their hands up to be involved again.
