A NATIONAL hardware store is looking to nail down a franchise in Tamworth.
Total Tools has submitted a development application to Tamworth Regional Council, for a $300,000 development in Taminda, on the corner of Lockheed and Jewry Street, opposite Bunnings.
The Total Tools franchise has 65 stores across the nation, including 23 in NSW. If the Tamworth development is given the green light, it will be the company’s furthest inland store in NSW.
Total Tools project manager Mike Lazzaro said Tamworth “ticked all the boxes” in regards to demographics and population.
“Regional Australia is no different to the high-density areas, it creates a market for us,” he said.
Mr Lazzaro said Total Tools had no problem being located across the road from home-improvement giant Bunnings.
“In fact, we rather destination-type centres, it provides the focus for a lot of customers to come to us,” he said.
“It suits our footprint if you like. It’s all about providing competition and being able to promote the brand.”
Total Tools is a self-described “tradie’s heaven”.
“We stand by our motto, which is ‘Every tool, every trade’,” Mr Lazzaro said.
“We’re really well suited to the trade industry, which is our predominate market.”
If approved, Mr Lazzaro said the store would “be looking to open in December”, with at least six staff working at any one time.
The development applications says a Total Tools store can serve up to 100 customers a day, with an average of 55 customers a day.
The proposed opening hours are 7am to 6pm on weekdays, 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and 10am to 3pm on Sundays.
