Each team is given a team that has qualified or have played at the current FIFA World Cup to play as and Souths United pulled Spain in the under 13s division.
The team is made up of players from four Souths teams that play in the local competition in the under 12s and under 13s.
Coach Wes Clark helped put the side together and said the week was all about letting the kids improve as players.
“It’s about the kids having fun and progressing them in bigger tournaments like this,” Clark said.
“We want them to be able to progress their skills and gameplay in general.”
There is also another incentive as the two top players win a fully paid 23-day football tour of Germany, while all competitors are scouted for scholarships at Toowoomba Grammar and student exchanges between schools in Germany and Australia.
“If they're going to get noticed it’s going to be somewhere like Inverell,” Clark said.
After the idea to enter a team was thought up, Clark received a huge response from Souths players wanting to play for the side.
“We’ve been at it for three or four months,” Clark said.
“We’ve got a good staff – a couple of trainers, coaches and a manager. There’s been a lot of hard work put into it on and off the field. We had trials in June and started training at the end of June on top of normal training.”
The tournament runs from Monday to Friday with Souths to get at least six games in.
