While the North Companions first graders did the job on the park on Saturday in the Northern Inland Premier League grand final, the win can be attributed to many more people than just those that took to the field.

Companions captain Ben Todd said before the big dance, it was “the club’s grand final” and after the win he said the time put in by everyone at the club made it possible.
“It’s an effort from everyone,” Todd said following the first grade victory.
“We train as a squad so we're all a part of it. Reserve grade’s out here with us now and the committee’s behind us.
“We’ve got a great president and juniors are going well. It’s just a complete team effort and it’s been rewarded with a grand final win in two grades.
“There’s so much work that goes into it. So much effort, dedication and commitment from everyone in this club.”
The club was “nearly defunct” at the start of last year when Companions’ were struggling to field a Premier League team, according to Todd.
However, Northies put together a team and finished mid-table in 2016.
Coach Dave Palmer said the side built from that year and kept a core group together which has seen the club thrive this season.
“I just think it’s sticking together,” Palmer said when asked how the club managed the turnaround.
“That main core of players and people sticking together and it’s not just the players, it’s the committee, the coaching staff and then getting the players to buy in to what we’re doing.”
