The annual four-day John Davidson Country Basketball Jamboree, which starts in Tamworth on Saturday, has for a long time been used as a vital sporting and personal development springboard for the state’s best young players.
“They wouldn’t have played in combined teams with other kids before this,” Tamworth Basketball administrator Peter McDonald said.
“It’s sort of the first step towards getting in the NSW rep system.”
He added: “It gives them a taste of living in camps with other players … It’s quite a big thing. They live away from home for four days.”
The games will be played at the Tamworth Sports Dome.
To qualify for the jamboree, 450 players attended a skills day camp at one of 12 venues. Ninety boys and 90 girls were selected from the camps.
