Following a trip south of the border last year, a 14s team from the University of Sunshine Coast club returned to TAS for their 2017 season closer, joined by an outfit from Bishop Druitt College, Coffs Harbour.
In the opening 10-a-side match the hosts played BDC, ending in a 44-22 win for TAS.
Bishop Druitt then backed up to play for USC, with the Queenslanders notching up the bulk of the points in a strong win.
The final game pitched USC against TAS in a 15-a-side game, with the hosts supplying surplus players to fill the USC team.
It was a tight encounter – nil-all at half time.
Then USC scored and converted early in the second half.
“TAS struck back with a strong run by Nick Munsie, our bullocky No.8, crossing the line, but we were unable to convert, leaving the score at 5-7,” TAS coach Andrew Junge said.
USC then had an infringement, with TAS’ Tom Forsythe taking the tap and passing to Rocco Louis who passed to Archie Chick to score.
This time Forsythe slotted the conversion, making it 12-7 right on the bell.
“It was a good strong fixture against a well-resourced club,” Junge said.
“However I was just as proud of the way our boys played in the right spirit, were generous in playing for other teams, and were good hosts to USC who had travelled a significant distance to finish their season.”
