Budget funding has paved the way for a $4.79 million state-of-the-art station.
The building would replace the existing West Tamworth Fire Station and the regional zone office in White Street.
It is hoped the station would be operational in 2020.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the search was on for the “ideal location” for the facility.
“We want to ensure the new station is built in a location that best serves the community and provides quicker response times to all parts of Tamworth,” he said.
“When the emergency call comes in, it’s critical that fire trucks respond as quickly as possible.
“Those first few minutes could mean the difference between saving a life and property.
“The new location will need to be large enough and central enough to house both retained and permanent firefighters and their equipment.”
