Group 19 rugby league: Narwan Eels mentor Peter Moran predicts late win over MacIntyre Warriors in grand final

SHOW TIME: Eels centre Wez Kelly will be in action in Saturday's Group 19 first-grade grand final against the Warriors at Boggabilla Sports Ground.

Narwan coach Peter Moran has predicted MacIntyre will be their own worst enemy in Saturday’s Group 19 first-grade grand final, allowing the Eels to claim victory late in the match.

“They’re similar to Boomerangs. I think they’ll self-destruct at the backend of the game,” Moran said as the Eels prepared to travel to Moree on Friday to ensure they were fresh for the clash at Boggabilla Sports Ground.

Moran made the bold forecast despite the Eels having lost their three matches against the Warriors this season. He has drawn confidence from the Eels’ past two games against the Warriors – a 16-10 loss in round 13 and a 36-32 loss in the second semi-final.

“Both games came down to the wire,” he said. “Both times the referee’s decision cost us the win. Apart from that, we’re at full strength this week, which is good to see … If we can get most of the ball and complete our sets, I’m quite confident we can get on top of them.

“It will probably come down to late in the second half.”

The Eels planned to have a training run at Moree on Friday afternoon.

Moran said the side had a good training run on Thursday night and “all the boys are up” for the clash. “They’re ready for it,” he said. “They’re [the Warriors] a good side and if we don’t come out mentally tough, they can beat us.”
