The Allan Denham-trained son of Flying Spur won the 1400m feature at Mudgee last Sunday and goes into the Spring Cup with 83 benchmark points, three more than the Ben Smith-trained Anecdote.
The Tamworth Jockey Club received 14 nominations for the Spring Cup and 127 for Tuesday’s eight-race TAB meeting.
Anecdote, a seven-year-old gelding son of Lonhro, has won seven of his 30 starts including the Bengalla Cup at Muswellbrook two runs back.
Armidale-trained New Endeavour is also a nomination from the rising stable of Stirling Osland.
The five-year-old son of Casino Prince bounced back to form at Tamworth to win the $20,000 Allsopp Signs Benchmark 55 Handicap (1200m) last month and holds pride of place in Stirling’s blossoming training career.
“He was my first winner,” he said after the last-start Tamworth win.
