A Tamworth artist is being given an exciting opportunity to showcase her talents to an even broader – and even international – audience.

Joanne Stead will leave her mark at one of Australia’s most iconic locations next week, when she travels to Sydney to paint a mural on the Bondi Beach Sea Wall.
Her as-yet-unrevealed design will reflect her sense of whimsy and fun, and tie into the spot’s identity and sense of place.
“I don’t want to give away my design just yet,” she said.
“I’ve put a call out through my Facebook page for people to call in, grab a paintbrush or a roller, and work alongside me if they’re in the area.”
“I’ve got a few jobs I’ve planned that anyone, whether they believe they have artistic talent or not, will be able to turn their hand to.”
“A bit of secrecy and a big reveal will add to the sense of fun and camaraderie for everyone who participates,” she said.
The Bondi Beach Sea Wall runs along the length of the south Bondi Beach promenade and is known for its mix of traditional and contemporary art, with works ranging from collages, stencils, pop art, text works, love notes and memorial portraits.
The iconic location offers sixty-five, four metre panels to artists, and attracts new and established names from across the globe whose work is displayed for six months at a time.
“It will be the biggest mural I have tackled to date, but I am really looking forward to it,” Ms Stead said.
“Bondi Beach is such an Australian icon, and with over 2 million visitors a year you never know who might walk past and admire your artwork, or hopefully snap a selfie.”
And the fun doesn’t stop there.
Bondi is the first of two Sydney-based opportunities that the local artist has lined up in the next few months.
She will also exhibit a collection of her new works at St Leonards between November and December.
“I was lucky enough to secure a major exhibition opportunity in Brisbane last year, so I was really hoping to take the next step and be able to do something in Sydney this year,” she said.
“These two opportunities were just too good to pass up.”
