The TJC will stage the Darren Jones Family Appeal at the racecourse on Thursday night – a charity event to aid the family of the late Tamworth jockey Darren Jones, killed in an April race fall, in which 102 items will be auctioned.
The 48-year-old jockey was respected and admired for his work ethic on and off the track while caring for his wife Sheridan and sons Jacob and William.
To help his widow and sons, the TJC is holding the benefit night, with Australia’s leading jockey Hugh Bowman, who rides super mare Winx, and retired jockey great Malcolm Johnston set to speak on the night.
The event’s organising committee has put together a stunning array of auction items.
They include a canvas photograph of Winx that has been signed by Bowman, an original Winx painting by Kristin Hardman and Winx racing colours signed by Bowman.
Other items to be auctioned include memorabilia related to Black Caviar, Phar Lap, Makybe Diva, So You Think items and Kingston Town.
Boxing gloves signed by Jeff Fenech and Kostya Tszyu, and a signed NSW State Of Origin jumper, will also be auctioned.
Jones was a devoted St George supporter. So St George Illawarra have donated a signed Dragons jumper while one of their former stars, Nathan Blacklock, has donated a special piece of Dragons memorabilia.
There are also four tickets to the club’s Captains Lounge in 2018 up for grabs.
West Tigers, Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters have also sent signed jumpers while Cronulla Sharks skipper Paul Gallen has donated a pair of his football boots.
The event starts at 6pm, with the $50 tickets available from the TJC (6765 9387).
Donations can also be made via the Darren Jones Family Appeal (BSB 932 000; A/c 000753692).
