The combination of Mareece Guest, Sherilee Stewart, Roxy McKinnon, Lyn Evans, Nan Hill, Mel L’Estrange, Robyn Schumacher, Di Kelly and Marion D’Elboux (manager) overcame a first game hiccup to be crowned the No.2’s champions.
Recounting their success back at the club on Friday after returning home from the Central Coast, L’Estrange, who is also the women’s club president, said it is a “huge achievement”.
It follows the No.3’s triumph four years ago (2013), which McKinnon, Hill, Schumacher, Kelly and Guest were all a part of.
Playing some brilliant bowls in tough and windy conditions, West Tamworth’s only slip-up came against Seaforth in their first game, going down by two points.
“We won one rink. The other team were trying very hard to catch up and almost did,” L’Estrange said.
They then “won everything after that” to finish top of their section, and move through to another round robin series against the two other section winners.
Drawing Maryland’s first up, West Tamworth were optimistic but not too confident, but beat them by eight points.
It meant they only had to win one rink in their final game against Dubbo City to win the flag.
L’Estrange said their goal heading in was just to “have fun, be competitive and to meet new bowlers”, and attributed their success to “good team-work and camaraderie”, and “a little bit of ability”.
