While Massey and Hanlan’s NSW Country men’s side defeated Queensland 3-1 to be crowned national champions, McLean, Rekunow and the Parker sister’s women’s side had to settle for silver after going down to their northern neighbours 2-nil.
The two minutes either side of half-time was where Queensland did the damage, scoring their two goals in the 33rd and 37th minute.
Earlier in a largely faultless performance, Riley Hanrahan's late goal sealed a two-goal win for the men after Michael Dillon and Ben Wright had put them ahead 2-nil at half-time.
Armidale’s Chloe Hampton also played for South Australia, and was along with all four of her Hockey New England peers named in the Australian Country teams, Rekunow and Hampton in the U21 women, the Parker’s the open women’s and Hanlan the open men’s.
