Officers interacted with a black BMW X5 after it failed to stop in West Tamworth about 2am Sunday morning.
A subsequent pursuit ensued, before it was terminated a short time later, police told The Leader on Sunday afternoon.
The vehicle, which was stolen from a Gunnedah Road address, was later located on Southview Street, West Tamworth, about 2.50am.
Police are now urging anyone with information on the car or any witnesses who watched the pursuit unfold to come forward.
This latest incident comes amid a spike in car thefts, with a car being stolen every second day so far this month in Tamworth.
Police are now urging residents to lock up and secure their vehicles.
