The Giants will hold on to second place and book themselves a home qualifying match if they can conquer their final frontier.

There is a strong chance the Giants would face the Cats again in their first final though they could still claim the minor premiership if they win at Simonds Stadium and Adelaide lose to West Coast in Perth.

The league's newest club has won at each of the AFL's major venues apart from the Cattery, where they have lost both their games.

Simonds Stadium is in the running to host a Geelong home final if it was against the Giants, giving them extra incentive to secure the points this week.

The Cats' claims to a top-four berth were in question after losing Joel Selwood, Tom Hawkins and Mitch Duncan a fortnight ago. But they have rebounded with wins against Richmond and bogey side Collingwood. In another boost, spearhead Hawkins returns this week after completing a two-week suspension.

"Leading into finals probably the perfect game for us. It will be a real competitive one for us," Kelly said after the Giants' victory over the Eagles.

The Cats have lost just seven of 51 games at Simonds Stadium since Chris Scott assumed the reins in 2011.

"We know what we're going to get at their home ground - it will be a packed house, they play really well there," Giants coach Leon Cameron said.

"They deserve to be in the top four like we deserve to be in the top four.

"There's a lot hanging on the game. Great opportunity for us to prepare our footy club in the right manner for the Geelong footy club as well. It can't get any bigger, but no doubt there's four or five other games next week that will determine the result of the eight."

Decimated by injury early in the year, the Giants are getting closer to full health nearing the finals. It has created the competition for places that Cameron believes is integral for a strong assault on the flag.

Tim Taranto, the second pick in last year's draft, impressed in his comeback game in the NEAFL on the weekend, featuring among the best players. Matt Kennedy also featured prominently to keep his name in the frame.
