Scoring goals has posed a problem for Norths in recent weeks but that wasn’t the case on Sunday as the Armidale side got up 3-2 in the Northern Inland Premier League first grade competition.
Anthony Green – who scored the lone goal for Norths United the day before – Peter Ince and Liam Georkas all scored for the home side in a return to form.
“It’s nice to score three again,” Norths co-coach Scott Freeman said.
“The boys turned up, knew they didn’t get the job done yesterday, so they lifted themselves massively for today’s game. We probably had a few more shots on target but the boys worked really well for each other.”
In the Saturday game, defence from both sides was strong throughout the encounter which both teams played with a finals-like intensity.
The two goals of the match came within three minutes of each other.
Green scored first before Josh Bartlett replied for Tamworth FC almost instantly.
The score would remain 1-1 for the remainder of the match.
With the defensive effort so strong from both sides, it makes sense it’s what impressed both camps most.
Norths United captain Jason Boundy said his backs “really stood out” while Tamworth FC manager Grant Davidson called his side’s display “probably, with the 17 we had, the best defensive game we’ve played all year.”
