His thirst for MMA knowledge is only counterbalanced by his eagerness to embrace the challenge of the sport.
With a background in, first, boxing and, then, brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ), Windle moved to Tamworth a couple of months ago and started training with muay thai specialist Ben Burrage at Fighting Arts Tamworth to add another discipline to his repertoire.
The MMA fighter put his weaponry to the test in Sydney at the start of August and things looked shaky early.
I just trained for it and that’s when I got involved in jiu jitsu.

Windle was knocked down but his opponent let him back up. Big mistake.
Windle said his opponent didn't want to take on the Tamworth-based fighter’s ground game.
With a clear head, Windle turned things around to clinch the win.
“I said to him later ‘if you knew how badly I was injured, you wouldn't have let me up’,” Windle told The Northern Daily Leader.
“It’s just the way things rolled and I think, at a little over four minutes, I was able to achieve my full mount with some solid ground and pound and just tapped him out. He didn't like the taste of it.”
Burrage said the way Windle trained before the fight gave a good indication of how he was going to perform.
“He’s one of those blokes that’s dedicated, motivated to do his own fitness, his own training and that’s a big thing with fighters,” Burrage said.
Along with fights in Australia, Windle has also fought in the Philippines and was drawn to MMA as soon as he discovered it over a decade ago.
“The first day I seen it, because of all the aspects of it, there’s so much weaponry involved, it just interested the hell out of me,” Windle said.
“I just trained for it and that’s when I got involved in jiu jitsu. It’s when I started to learn about everything [MMA], it all started coming out, it was never here. Australia has been boxing, kick boxing, karate, but no one knew about it [MMA].”
Windle is now keen to get back in the ring. Nothing is locked in but Windle is up for just about anything and is looking to compete at a fight night Burrage is hoping to put on in October.
“[There will be] muay thai, boxing but looking to branching into that [MMA] as well,” Burrage said.
Windle also plans to start teaching BJJ out of Fighting Arts Tamworth.
