Tamworth Regional Council will begin construction on an extension of the carpark behind the community centre on Darling St which will add 111 new off-street parking spots to the CBD.
Construction work is scheduled to start on Monday, August 21 and is expected to take about seven weeks.
“It includes stormwater drainage, lighting, kerb and gutter and a bitumen seal with 111 marked parking spaces surrounded by a two-metre high chain link fence,” council senior engineer transport and assets, Jay Morrow, said.
“There will also be a pathway to provide pedestrian access to Bourke St.”
There are 130 existing parking spaces in the Tamworth Community Centre Carpark with 32 of those designated three-hour free parking while the remainder is all-day free parking.
The type of parking to be provided in the new section of the carpark will be decided later in the year as part of a review and update of Council’s CBD Parking Strategy.
