Armidale Local Area Command duty officer Matthew Hemsworth said the arsonists could have cost someone their life.
“The dangers are obvious, they could have caused damage to residential property, the people lighting these fires are unaware of how quickly they can turn serious in these high winds,” Mr Hemsworth said.
Firefighters were called to two blazes at O’Dell and Donnelly Streets on Wednesday at 1pm.
Just six hours later, they responded to an emergency call about a fire near the corner of Jeffrey and Douglas Streets.
Armidale Fire and Rescue NSW station commander Steve McWhirter said the fires put lives and property at risk.
“I’m not sure if the people who lit these fires realise how serious it is,” he said.
“The fires could have gotten to homes that back onto that property.”
Police are searching for the unknown arsonists.
